My motherland is a country in the heart of Europe. It is so near your country, Natalie! If you go by plane, it is only about three hours. Yet (и всё же) it is so far if you go by land and by sea that I feel I must tell you about it. Its area is almost as large as that of the UK, but its landscape is different. Like in your country, it is also covered. But you cannot find any mountains in my country. The highest point, called Dzerzhinskaya Gora, which means "a mountain", is only 365 metres above sea level. Nevertheless, my country has a lot of attractive sights. Sometimes it is called a "blue-eyed land". Thousands of lakes, large and small, attract both people and animals to their wide or snowy shores in all seasons. Some of them are very quiet among huge forests, hiding their untouched beauty and listening to fantastic bird songs. Do they want to be discovered? Thousands of rivers, fast and slow, narrow and grassy, take their waters every day and night to the Baltic and Black Seas. Two thirds of its territory is covered with forests and pushchas. The Belovezhskaya Pushcha in the west is the oldest and most fascinating of the grassy area.
