Discuss in groups: Who is your favourite character in the story? Why? Who is your least favourite character? Why? Who else might live at the top of the beanstalk? Can you think of a different ending to the story?

My favourite character is Jack because he is clever and brave. My least favourite character is the giant because he is frightening and wants to catch Jack. A fairy, a dragon or a family of elves might live at the top of the beanstalk.

In my different ending, Jack reaches the top of the beanstalk and talks to the giant. He explains that his family is poor. The giant feels sorry for him and gives Jack some gold. Jack returns home, and he and his mother use the gold to buy a farm. They live happily and never need to steal again.
