A thousand years ago, Vikings lived in my area. They came from Scandinavia and arrived by boat. They settled near the river because it provided water and made travel and trade easier.
The Vikings were farmers, fishermen, craftsmen and traders. They grew crops, kept animals and caught fish. They ate bread, meat, fish, vegetables and berries. They wore woollen clothes, leather shoes and warm cloaks.
They left behind the remains of houses, tools, weapons and jewellery. Their settlements and burial places help us understand how people lived in my area many centuries ago.
