General Rule: Infinitive form + ed

Spelling Rules:

  • a) When the verb ends in 'e', we only add a 'd'. Example: loveloved.
  • b) When verbs end in consonant + vowel + consonant, the last consonant doubles. Example: stopstopped.
  • c) If the final syllable is not stressed, we do not double the final letter. Example: listenlistened.
