Modern cities are the busiest places in the world. They are often difficult places to live. Many people love living in a city full of supermarkets, swimming pools, cinemas and shopping centres. However, it is sometimes nice to have quiet spaces, too. Cities also need places where young people can hang out. Anders Thomasson is an architect. He is working with young people to learn how to design the cities of the future.
Anders asked secondary school students to use popular computer games to design their perfect city. First, students worked in small groups. Then, they chose the best parts of each group's design and made their final designs. They presented their ideas to the public. Some of the best ideas had apartment blocks with gardens and parks on the rooftops of public buildings. Many also had sports centres and places to hang out with friends. Anders said: 'People need to listen to teenagers and children. It is their world. They'll be the people who live in the spaces we design today.'
