Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is well-known for creating one of the most famous characters in English Literature, Sherlock Holmes, the detective of all time. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born on 22 May 1859 in Edinburgh. Arthur's father was an artist and his mother was a housewife who was one of the most important people in Arthur's life. His mother was a very good storyteller and loved books, so Arthu always listened to mother's stories. He began writing stories when he was only five years old. Then he was a good student at Newington Academy in Edinburgh. In 1876, Doy! started studying medicine at the University of Edinburgh. It was one of the bes medical schools of that time. Apart from studying at the university, he also wro short stories. It was in 1886 when he wrote a novella "A Study in the Scarlet" a introduced the characters of Sherlock Holmes and Sir John Watson.
