Stonehenge is Britain's greatest national icon. Its original purpose is not clear to people, but some scientists have speculated that it used to be a temple made for the worship of ancient gods. It is called an astronomical observatory for marking important events on the prehistoric calendar. Others are sure that it used to be a sacred site for the burial of high-ranking citizens from the ancient societies. While we can't say for sure what it was for, we can say that it wasn't constructed for any casual purpose. Only something very important to ancient people would be worth the effort and investment that it took to construct Stonehenge.
