Tom Conaway's passion is filmmaking. Despite being in a wheelchair due to a spinal injury, he actively pursues this hobby.
His father, Doug Conaway, helped him engage with filmmaking by strapping a camera to Tom's chair. Tom now uses a 'helmet camera' or his father sets up a camera on a tripod, which Tom controls remotely. He watches the camera view on a DVD player screen on his knee. His disability even presents an advantage in his filmmaking, as his ability to sit still without startling animals allows him to film them up close in their natural habitat.
